Skiing in the Salzkammergut Region
Skiing in the Salzkammergut means fun and action for the whole family. In winter the meadows, grazing slopes and hiking paths that attract hikers in the summer turn into ski pistes of varying difficulty. The snow transforms the mountains into action-packed vibrant winter sport resorts and the whole atmosphere changes in anticipation of a great winter season. The best thing about the ski resorts in the Salzkammergut: they're not as crowded as the some of the major ski resorts and yet offer excellently prepared pistes, great snow conditions and a well organised infrastructure. The cosy mountain restaurants serve wholesome Austrian specialities, just the thing for hungry skiers. There are several excellent ski areas near Salzburg City within easy driving distance of the Garden Hotel Sonnleitn such as Hintersee-Gaissau, Postalm and Zwölferhorn. Ski resort Gaissau-Hintersee
Gaissau-Hintersee in the County of Salzburg is just a 15-minute drive from Fuschl am See. The 40 kilometres of pistes range from easy to intermediate. There are 3 chairlifts and 5 drag lifts. Hintersee-Gaissau is the largest ski area in the region.
Postalm ski area
The second largest high altitude plateau in the Alps is a stunning 40-minute drive away from Fuschl am See. The pistes are easy to intermediate. There are 5 drag lifts and there are also 20 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails. Because of its altitude the Postalm in Salzburg County is snow-sure and ideal for intermediate skiers, cross-country skiers and winter walkers.
Zwölferhorn ski slopes
The ski slopes on the Zwölferhorn Mountain are just 7 kilometres away from Fuschl am See in Salzburg County. The pistes are ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers. There's a fantastic sun terrace at the top of the slopes offering fantastic views of the surrounding Salzkammergut mountains. The gondola will take you comfortably to the top of the slopes at 1560 metres.
